Dr. Benfield is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With a degree in Radio, Television and motion pictures his early career revolved around sales and marketing in various media companies. Once deciding to pursue a medical career Dr. Benfield worked in an assisted living facility while completing all pre-med requirements. This path ultimately led to an MD degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine, now the Brody School of Medicine, with stops along the way in St. Georges, Grenada, Canterbury, England and northern New Jersey.
Dr. Benfield is trained in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and completed this residency in 2004 at the University of Louisville. He currently resides in Louisville where he founded MD2U in July of 2004. With no patients and no funding Dr. Benfield along with his sister and brother-in-law began this house calls only practice. After 8 years, the practice operates in 6 states, and makes more than 6,000 visits per month to the homebound/home limited elderly and disabled.
MD2U is a nurse practitioner based model and operates in a micro-practice style, with a focus on relationship building and service to the patients and caregivers. MD2U provides full medical care in the home and outsources labs, diagnostics, and makes more than 4,000 referrals to home health annually. The practice is proud to be in the Independence at Home demonstration project and is planning national expansion over the next 2 years.
Dr. Benfield has been a guest on strategic advisory boards for national home health companies and speaks regularly to the marketing and sales forces in home care about the home care/house calls partnership and collaboration.
